T he official theme for National Science Day 2026 is " Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat ".  This theme aims to highlight the crucial role of women in the scientific community and their contribution toward building a developed India ("Viksit Bharat").

Core SDGs Related to Chemistry

SDG 6: Clean Water & Sanitation:  Chemists develop advanced materials for water purification, desalination, and removal of pollutants. SDG 7: Affordable & Clean Energy:  Chemistry is crucial for developing high-efficiency solar panels, advanced batteries, and energy storage solutions. SDG 12: Responsible Consumption & Production:  Focuses on green chemistry, promoting a circular economy through waste reduction, recycling, and sustainable, bio-based chemical production. SDG 13: Climate Action:  Involves developing low-carbon technologies, such as carbon capture and utilization (CCU) and transforming greenhouse gases into useful products. SDG 3: Good Health & Well-Being:  Essential for developing pharmaceuticals, diagnostic tools, and reducing hazardous chemical exposures. SDG 2: Zero Hunger:  Chemistry provides innovative agricultural solutions, including fertilizers, pesticides, and soil health management to improve food security. SDG 9: Ind...

IUPAC Emerging Technologies in Chemistry

Image
IUPAC  Emerging Technologies in Chemistry The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) highlighted ten technologies bridging laboratory discovery with industrial application:   Xolography:  A high-speed, high-precision 3D printing technique using light to create detailed polymer structures, potentially transforming additive manufacturing. Carbon Dots:  Greener, low-toxicity carbon nanoparticles for use in bioimaging, medicine, and as sustainable alternatives in solar cells. Direct Air Capture (DAC) & Electrochemical Conversion:  Technologies designed to remove    2 𝐶 𝑂 2  directly from the atmosphere and transform it into useful chemicals, aiming for carbon-negative processes. Synthetic Cells:  "Bottom-up" creation of artificial cells using lipid vesicles to encapsulate enzymes, which could revolutionize drug delivery and bio-production. Nanochain Biosensors:  1D magnetic nanostructures designed for ultra-sensi...

Green Chemistry

Image
Green chemistry (sometimes referred to as sustainable chemistry) is the branch of chemistry that deals with the design and optimization of processes and products in order to lower, or remove altogether, the production and use of toxic substances. Green chemistry is not the same as environmental chemistry.
